Hi. I'm Matt, an Audio Producer, Engineer, and Educator.

Over the past seven years I've developed a comprehensive podcast production skillset.

As the Head of Audio Production at HRN, I've assembled and mixed just about 200 episodes of award-winning shows like Meat and Three, The Big Food Question, The Build, and more. I've had firsthand experience of every part production process, including: pitch selection, the training of producers, written script feedback, audio cleanup, sound design, and scoring.

With a background as a touring bassist, I bring a musician's ear to my engineering. I've run live sound at 60-300 person events, set up livestreams from food festivals around the country, and recorded nearly 1,000 podcast episodes either in-studio or remotely.

Here's a sampling of my work. I hope you enjoy.

Sound Design | Engineering | Production

I helped launch The ChopChop Podcast, a kids' food show produced with ChopChop Magazine. I am particularly proud of the sound design for this series; I created the series theme, sourced or created music throughout, recorded and sourced sound effects, and produced sound-rich segments such as recipe walkthroughs and garden tours. I also advised on episode and segment structure, coached the hosts on voiceover, and am the ongoing engineer for the series.

Engineering  |  Series Launch Consulting

In the Spring of 2024 I guided a novice host through the launch of his first series, Joint Session: Diverse Voices in NYS Cannabis. This included establishing file management systems and a Descript-to-DAW workflow, training them on remote recording best practices, voiceover coaching, and advice on episode structure and music selection. I am the ongoing engineer for the series and continue to advise on production choices such as topics and guest pairings.

Series Development  |  Production Supervision  |  Editing

With The Build, we followed one Brooklyn restaurateur's struggles and successes as they attempted to open a new space over the course of a year.

I led the development and production of this series, which included creating a production process that was new to HRN. I hired the team and worked alongside them, guiding early conversations about the goals and structure of the show, leading production meetings, giving feedback on scripts, building a music library, and more.

This episode is one of 4 that I personally engineered for the series, including: assembly, mixing, music selections and scoring, and final script changes in the edit.

 Reporting  |  Interviewing  |  Engineering

I pitched, reported, and engineered this 6-minute story on how panedmic-era Carbon Dioxide shortages impacted craft brewers (it's worth noting that this story directly followed a piece that explained why there were shortages in the first place). I was intrigued not only in how it effected their business, but whether it changed their conception of CO2 as a "tool" or an "ingredient."  I handled every aspect of the piece, which included research, guest booking, scripting, conducting interviews, VO delivery, and mixing.

Story Production  |  Sound Design

I pitched this 5-minute story, in which I prepared a cricket-based dish for myself and my family, ruining my ability to eat orzo for years thereafter. I handled every aspect of the piece, which included scripting, field recording, sound design, scoring, and VO delivery.
